Gender Demystified: Creating Inclusive Spaces for People of All Genders
Whether you're transgender, cisgender, or agender, you have a gender identity. Frequently confused with gender is sex, but these two terms refer to very different identities. And what about sexual orientation? How does it fit in with gender and sex? Understandably, these identities can be confusing, nuanced, and change over time. This interactive workshop will explore various aspects of gender and sexual identity and examine whether binary models of gender and sex accurately represent the human experience. Participants will learn key vocabulary, gain a better understanding of their own identities, and identify ways to strive for allyship with transgender, nonbinary, and other gender non-conforming individuals. This workshop is designed for people of all gender identities, including those who are transgender or nonbinary. All participants will leave better equipped to serve as allies to people who do not conform to traditional gender roles. Transgender and nonbinary people will gain valuable information to use in self-advocacy. There will be plenty of time for dialogue and questions.
