Researchers in The Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy at the Ohio State University are looking for undergraduate student parents to participate in a study with the aim of better understanding the childcare needs of Ohio State’s student parents. They are interested in collecting the information from student parents on childcare needs throughout two regular semesters, whether the needs are met, and how it impacts the student parents’ academic pursuit.

If you are an undergraduate student, enrolled this semester at the Ohio State, and have child(ren) and would like to participate in this study, please contact Ruri Famelia (famelia.1@osu.edu).

For this study, they would like to have students participate in the following:

  1. An initial online survey. The survey will be distributed at the beginning of the first semester of your participation in this study. This survey asks questions about your demographic information. They anticipate that the survey will take 20 minutes to complete.
  2. Online weekly surveys over a given semester (16 surveys in total for a semester). These surveys will be distributed on Friday morning asking about your needs for emergency childcare services in that week and the fulfillment of those needs. They anticipate that the survey will take 7 minutes to complete. You will receive a $10 gift card after completing every four surveys (total $40 per semester).
  3. Semester online survey. The survey will be distributed at the beginning of the second semester of your participation in this study. This survey asks similar information with the initial online survey on classes enrolled in the current semester and childcare service you currently use for your children. They anticipate that the survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You will receive a $5 gift card after completing this survey.
  4. Educational records access. At the end of the semester of your participation, the research team will access your educational records from the office of Ohio State Student Academic Success Programs and Research (SASPR).

If you decide to participate in this study, you may access the survey consent and the initial survey here. After you complete this initial survey, you will receive your weekly survey every Friday morning. You will also be added to a course named “Childcare Needs of Student Parents” for educational record access consent. Any data collected will be confidential.
